The Coalition's Mission
  • Our mission is to preserve the Glen Cove area's last green spaces for our children's future, and;
  • To preserve this wildlife sanctuary which is an important part of Long Island’s fragile Ecosystem, and;
  • To facilitate informational exchanges between all parties involved in this preservation effort, and;
  • To identify the political and environmental entities who support this effort and ensure that they are kept abreast of all Coalition activities and to utilize their expertise in their fields, and;
  • To ensure that the media/press are fully informed/involved with each phase of the conservation effort, and;
  • To encourage State and Local political/environmental entities to work together to achieve the coalition's preservation goal, and;
  • To tap into the local population's green/preservationist mindset and to disseminate information to them in a timely manner to ensure their enthusiastic involvement, and;
  • To ensure that adequate capital to purchase the property is raised through private and public donations, and;
  • To write and widely distribute an extensive report on "The challenges of local land preservation", that will list all Coalition participants, non-participants, activities, successes, failures, technological tools, etc., in order to provide a small guide to assist the next preservationist with his or her grass-roots movement.

ONLINE EDITIONS:

Save The Red Spring Woods
By Victoria R. Crosby

Nine acres of virgin land

that’s never known a builder’s hand.

The tree’s green leaves help purify the air,

animals and birds seek refuge there,

and the red spring waters from the ground

flow freely to the Long Island Sound.

This lovely place of meditation,

which should merit conservation,

is threatened by a builder’s desire

for more McMansions, which has raised the ire

of the surrounding community

who say that they all agree

that this is Glen Cove’s last green space,

a peaceful, special hidden place,

a groundwater recharge zone,

a site that should be left alone.

So join our conservation drive

to keep the Red Spring Woods alive.

With your help and dedication

we will preserve this land for the next generation.
